Our Story

Students with a passion.

The root of social change lies in two things; the ability to identify societal issues and committing to the contribution of a solution. Most of us are so preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of daily life, that we seldom recognize that some people face even greater struggles: lacking basic essentials for survival.

Whenever we would commute to school at the University of Waterloo, we noticed that the encampment at 100 Victoria St had no support from the city. We were deeply moved by the situation and aspired to address the housing crisis in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. After researching various housing plans, looking into initiatives for the homeless community, and talking to the homeless, we knew what had to be done.

Heart of the Homeless was formed when a team of fellow students passionate about the issue came together and established a goal to create change within the KW region. With compassion as our guiding principle and determination leading our vision, we plan to provide a community-forward space for the homeless.

Where it all started

Our Mission

With increasing concerns regarding the government and its stricter regulations, our initiative focuses on providing a platform to the voiceless. Through our events and initiatives, we aim to work towards establishing a safer and more supportive community in the KW region - one where no one gets left behind.

Our People

Each member of our team shares the same passion for the crisis. We feel as though the urgency of change is more crucial than ever.

We have come together for one common goal: to kickstart the change for the current homeless initiatives that have proven unsuccessful.
